The main detainees: Mussa Hamda, resident of the village Zur Baher (in East Jerusalem) and his friend Basem Omri, Israeli citizen residing in Beit Safafa; they have operated together for a few years as part of Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood in Jerusalem.
ISA interrogation of the two revealed that after Operation Cast Lead, the two started to plan terror activity in Jerusalem; as part of their preparations for the attack, they examined the possibility to launch a rocket against Teddy Stadium during a soccer game. Thus, they scoped out a hill overlooking the stadium to see if it is a suitable spot for the launching; they have also collected intelligence on the area. Yet, the plotting never came into fruition.
The interrogations also revealed that the two purchased several pistols and tried to purchase a gun and IEDs. Other Jerusalem residents were involved in the purchase and concealment of the pistols: Mohammad Hamada and Amer Hamada, Musa's cousins and residents of Zur Baher. The pistols were bought from Belal Bohtan, residing in Beit Hanina in East Jerusalem. All the individuals involved in trading in arms were arrested, interrogated and confessed.
During the past two years Musa Hamada departed a few times to Saudi Arabia where he met with a representative of the Muslim Brotherhood. In one of the meetings, the Saudi representative provided Hamada with money for purchasing weapons and in return asked him to collect information on Jerusalem sites.
Apart from the above mentioned activity, the investigation disclosed vast Hamas organizational activity in the area of Jerusalem, particularly the Temple Mount. The activity includes conducting maintenance works in the Temple Mount compound, organizing visits of students and others in Al Aqsa Mosque and the Temple Mount; this activity is subsidized by Hamas.
On January 2 2011 indictments against Musa Hamada and Basem al Omri were submitted to the Jerusalem District Court. The indictments include counts of membership in and support of terror organization, trading in arms (several counts) and conspiracy to commit a crime (two counts).
Indictments of trading in arms were submitted in recent days against the other individuals involved in the plotting, who were the facilitators of Hamada and Omri. The indictments include many counts of illegal trading in arms according to section 144 of the Penal Law.
