The increase is due to a rise in the number of attacks in the Jerusalem area: 25 attacks (7 in November); as well as attacks coming from the Gaza Strip: 30 attacks (11 in November).

In the Judea and Samaria area 26 attacks had occurred, as in November.
Three Israelis were injured as a result of terror attacks. A security officer and a civilian were injured due to firebomb attacks in Jerusalem (on December 3 and 8 respectively). Another security officer was stabbed (on December 17) at Ma'ale Adumim checkpoint, near Jerusalem.

Throughout December 2011, 30 rockets and 11 mortar shells were launched towards Israel (in 30 attacks), compared to 11 rockets and one mortar shell in November 2011 (in 10 attacks).
