May has seen an increase in the number of terrorist attacks: 81, as opposed to 70 in April.
The increase was most prominent in the Judea and Samaria area, particularly in attacks involving throwing of firebombs. 50 attacks took place in this area, compared to 36 in April. Of these, 48 involved throwing of firebombs, compared to 32 in April.
 

At the same time, a slight decrease in the number of attacks was registered in Jerusalem: 21, compared to 24 in April. The level of attacks in the Gaza Strip remained similar to last month's: 10 attacks in May, compared to 9 in April.

 

Six Israelis were injured in terrorist attacks in May. One civilian and three security personnel were injured in incidents involving throwing of object/ stone and firebombs in Judea and Jerusalem (on May 2 and May 15). Two security personnel were injured by small arms fire on the Gaza Strip border (on May 23).

 

 

 

 

Data regarding terror attacks in May 2012

Following is a regional distribution of attacks:

 

10 attacks in the Gaza Strip (9 in April); 50 attacks in the Judea and Samaria (36 in April); 21 attacks in Jerusalem (24 in April).

 

Jerusalem and the Judea and Samaria area: Most attacks executed in May (69 out of 71) were in the form of firebombs (April: 54 out of 60). 

 

 

 

Distribution of attacks according to regions and pattern profile:

Following is a distribution of attacks in May 2012 according to regions:

 

The Gaza Strip – 10 attacks: 4 rocket launchings; 2 mortar shell launchings; 3 small arms shooting; 1 AT launching.

 

Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem – 71 attacks: 1 small arms shooting; 1 object/ stone throwing; 69 firebombs (21 in Jerusalem).

 

 

 

High-trajectory launchings from the Gaza Strip

Throughout  May 2012, 4 rockets and 2 mortar shells were launched towards Israel, (in 6 attacks), compared to 10 rockets, 2 of them from Sinai to Eilat, in April (in 9 attacks).
