Operation "Cast Lead"
Weekly Update - November 12, 2008
This week the high trajectory weapon attacks from the Gaza Strip into Israel continued. According to Palestinian sources this was a response to Israeli activity. As is known, a limited ISA-IDF operation was carried out on the evening between November 4th and 5th, which exposed a tunnel ready for use, which was intended for the purpose of a large terror attack within Israel. This Israeli activity was undertaken in order to deal with an impending and urgent threat. On November 12th a conflict broke out between IDF forces, who attempted to neutralize an explosive charge on the security fence of the Gaza Strip, and Palestinian terrorist elements. Mortars, bullets and explosives were used against IDF forces. One Israeli soldier was wounded in the conflict; on the Palestinian side, 4 terrorists were killed.

Major trends
In the Gaza Strip – continuation of the increase in rocket and mortar firing toward Israel.
Total: 29 attacks, in contrast to 28 attacks last week).
Since the beginning of the Lull (June 19), there have been 67 disruptions, most of the type of high-trajectory weapon fire (rockets/mortars), along with a number of incidents of setting explosives.
In Judea and Samaria – increased number of attacks characterized by violent “popular resistance”: this week, 15 Molotov cocktails were thrown, in contrast to 9 last week. In addition, one attack involving gunfire (Samaria).
