In March a marked increase was noted in the number of attacks compared to February: 125 attacks as opposed to 53 attacks in February. The causes for the increase in the number of attacks are: growing tension in both Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, namely the increase in rocket launchings towards Israel.
 

In effect, the increase in the number of attacks is noted in all areas but is more prominent in Jerusalem (27 attacks as opposed to 3 in February) and in the Gaza Strip (36 attacks compared to 13 last month).

Throughout the month 3 people were killed by Gaza Strip based attacks: two IDF soldiers in a shooting attack (March 26) and a foreign worker in a rocket launching attack (March 18). Also 4 Israelis were wounded in shooting attacks: a civilian and a soldier in the Jerusalem area and 2 soldiers in the Gaza Strip borderline.

 

 

 

Data regarding casualties in terrorist attacks
Throughout March 3 people were killed (two soldiers and a foreign worker) as a result of Gaza Strip based attacks:

  • March 18 – a Thai worker was killed from a rocket launching attack.
  • March 26 – an IDF officer (Eliraz Peretz) and a soldier (Ilan Swiatkowski) were killed as a result of a shooting attack in the Gaza Strip borderline.
    Furthermore, 4 Israelis were wounded in shooting attacks:
  • A civilian and a security forces officer in the Jerusalem area (March 1 and 16 respectively).
  • Two IDF soldiers in a shooting attacks in the Gaza Strip borderline (March 26).

 

 

Data regarding terrorist attacks in March 2010
In March a marked increase was noted in the number of attacks compared to February: 125 attacks as opposed to 53 attacks in February. The increase in the number of attacks is noted in all areas but is more prominent in Jerusalem and in the Gaza Strip.

Following is the distribution of attacks in a regional profile: 62 attacks in the Judea and Samaria (compared to 37 in February); 36 attacks in the Gaza Strip (compared to 13 last month), and 27 attacks in the Jerusalem area (compared to 3 in February).

In the Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem – this month too most attacks (79 out of 89) are throwing of Molotov cocktails (last month: 36 out of 40).

 

 

 

Monthly distribution of attacks according to regional profile
Following is a distribution of attacks in March according to regions:

The Gaza Strip – 36 attacks (as opposed to 13 last month): 25 rocket launchings, five mortar shell launchings, five small arms shootings and one AT shooting.

Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem – 89 attacks (as opposed to 40 last month): three explosive devices, five small arms shooting, 79 Molotov cocktail throwing (25 of them in Jerusalem).



High-trajectory launchings from the Gaza Strip
Throughout March 2010, 35 rockets and 6 mortar shells were launched towards Israel (in 30 attacks) as opposed to 5 rockets and 5 mortar shell launchings in February (in 9 attacks).
