In January a significant increase was noted in the number of attacks: 80 attacks as opposed to 51 attacks in December 2009. The increase is noted in all areas: the Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem. A sharp increase was perceived in mortar shell shootings from the Gaza Strip: 28 launchings as opposed to 3 in December 2009. In January one Israeli citizen was injured from stone/object casting in Samaria.

Data regarding terrorist attacks in January
January demonstrates an increase of about 57 percents in the number of attacks as opposed to December: 80 attacks as opposed to 51 in December.
The increase in the number of attacks was perceived in all areas: the Gaza Strip, Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem. A sharp increase was perceived in mortar shell launchings from the Gaza Strip: 28 launchings as opposed to 3 in December 2009.

 

Distribution of attacks according to regions: 37 attacks in Judea and Samaria (as opposed to 28 in December); 32 attacks in the Gaza Strip (as opposed to 19 in December), and 11 attacks in the Jerusalem area (as opposed to 4 in December).

 

Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem – most attacks (38 out of 48) were in the form of Molotov cocktail throwing (in December: 27 out of 32).


 

 

 

Monthly distribution of attacks by region and pattern profile:
Following is a distribution of attacks in January according to regions:

The Gaza Strip – 32 attacks (as opposed to 19 last month): 11 rocket launchings, 15 mortar shell launchings, 2 explosive devices, 2 small arms shootings and 2 AT shootings.

Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem – 48 attacks (as opposed to 32 last month): 4 explosive devices, 2 grenade throwings (one of them in Jerusalem), 1 small arms shooting, 3 stone/object castings and 38 Molotov cocktail throwings (10 in Jerusalem).


High-trajectory launchings from the Gaza Strip
Throughout January 2010, 13 rockets and 28 mortar shells were launched towards Israel (in 26 attacks) as opposed to 9 rockets and 3 mortar shell launchings in December (in 11 attacks).
